Sept - Oct 2024: Loredo to Cies Island
Our time in Spain felt like constant storm dodging and waiting for a window to keep moving - who knew the good days sometimes looked like 25 knots rather than 50 or 2+m swell head on - but hey, you can only appreciate the good when you compare it to the absolute worst!
The weather was definitely mostly windy, rainy and grey the whole time we were there but we had some cloud breaks sometimes and made the most of it!
We enjoyed the anchorage in Santander with a beautiful backdrop of castles along the hills and the little beaches for us to get a break from the long sailing days!
Our time in Coruña was supposed to be a night or two but got extended due to the extreme weather - they even closed down city parks and playgrounds due to strong winds! By now, we had hoped we would have been in Porto to meet my (Alex) parents but clearly were behind given the weather, so instead they drove up to Coruña to meet us!
We tried to cover ground after Coruña but were very slow to make progress being hit with 40-50 knots on anchor in Malpica and Muxia, but we had a great time exploring land regardless!
After all this, our trip in Spain couldn’t have ended better - we had the most incredible days at Cies Islands, comprising of four archipelagos (Cíes, Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada).

Our first stop in Spain - Loredo!

The first of many rainbows at sea but we sailed straight through this one!

Do you think we have enough fenders? The bad weather was coming and we had to get ready.

We made it to Coruna!

We also had to shelter here another week waiting for storms to pass - the downside is the playgrounds were closed too!

We were off again!

Cies Island was an amazing last stop in Spain!

An amazing hike to the top!

Beautiful full moon for our last night in Spain!
